The character that my heart reached out to was Jenna, who was mentally disturbed by all the news of a serial killer on the loose. Any & everything that’s brought to light to the readers has a connection at some point. It was a suspenseful read from the beginning to the end. I didn’t see the end coming & only one of my theories proved right. It leaves the readers pondering upon the fact that do we actually know the people we are close to? Which means she’s a mystery for her beloved husband too. We get to know her as & when her husband does, as the story progresses. Control freak, organized, a strict mom, a devoted wife & a murderer. The underlying theme of this book is what makes Millicent, the lovely wife the way she is. I don’t know how I’m going to sound, but inspite of what these two are, the readers will develop a love-hate relationship with them both are super smart with equally dark minds & hearts.
He says he does what’s needed to impress Millicent. While Millicent is the one who wants the murders, her husband is the one who picks the victims & gets the details of their lives. The highlight of the book is the sinister characterization of Millicent & her husband & their twisted ways of life. The story is narrated by the husband (we do not have his name) & in alternating timelines. How long will they be able to hide themselves & get away from the serial killings? And most importantly what is the reason for having to do all this?
While they share their biggest darkest secrets, each of them still has their own set of secrets, to keep the marriage going. The demented couple is turned on by their perfectly planned stages & then the murders. Their secret to keeping the spark in their marriage is “well planned & plotted serial murders”. They appear like any ordinary couple, Millicent is into real estate selling houses, her husband is a private tennis coach in the local elite clubhouse only they aren’t. Millicent & her husband have been married for years & have two kids Rory & Jenna. My 1st reaction when the book ended – “What the hell did I just read?” My review will not do justice to my actual thoughts for this book. “It feels like what I know could fit in my hand and everything I don’t know would fill the house.”
